Projects: Royal Opera House
Jeremy Haneman – Musical Director
The Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus has been a remarkable success story for the Royal Opera House. Formed in 2011 after the launch of the Royal Opera House's new site in Purfleet where the sets for all productions are built, the non-auditioned choir has grown to 150 people and has performed extensively both at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and in London and for the community in Thurrock. The 8 part choir performs fully staged and costumed shows from memory and has devised many of its own works inspired by opera and theatre and worked with many leading soloists and theatrical artists from the Royal Opera House (especially members of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme) and from around the world. They have commissioned numerous works for community chorus including a song cycle on the theme of migration from composer John Barber and librettist Hazel Gould .The choir has done everything from flash mobs at the opera house to recording a charity Christmas single with KT Tunstall and others for the Jo Cox Foundation.
