Online Artist Residency

During lockdown the Singing Our Lives programme entered its next exciting stage, expanding towards becoming a global opera co-production.

A group of artists, producers, practitioners and company members from the UK, South Africa, India and the US came together for two days of conversation and creative visioning, facilitated using Open Space technology, led by Phelim McDermott of theatre company ‘Improbable’.


The group included Alexandra Godfree, Ali Pretty, Blanche Ellis, Brie Gobel, Darren Abrahams, Elayce Ismail, Emily Lim, Hafsah Aneela Bashir, Hamsa Mounif, Holly Hunter, Holly Jones, Jeanefer Jean-Charles, Jeremy Haneman, Jeremy Wong, Jim Pinchen, Joy Mukendi, Kolbassia Haoussou, Mandisi Dyantyis, Mark Dornford-May, Mike Roberts, Nicola Wydenbach, Paulina Malefane, Paul Murphy, Pete Yelding, Tanmay Dhanania and Phelim McDermott.


Since then the project has built upon this rich dialogue to establish partnerships, develop new models of working together and take the first steps to working with international partners in co-creating new musical work. See more on our Singing Our Lives page.
