John Newton
Bass Rep, Mixed Up Chorus Committee
I came to the Mixed Up Chorus through Ann in the sopranos who knew me from a local tennis club. I’d sung before with choirs, but was looking for something different. And I found it.
I love the ethos of the choir and sharing music from different cultures and in different languages. It can be challenging, but that’s good as you get older. And our Musical Director inspires us and encourages us. As well as learning the notes (hopefully in the right order!) we learn to be mentally agile and to listen actively.
We are encouraged to share our knowledge and experiences and respect each other. It’s a healthy place to be around. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and you have some laughs too!!
Favourite TP Moment
My favourite moment is the 10th Anniversary Concert 2024 in our new location in Highbury. It was wonderful to be a part of an evening of varied music and sharing, not without its relevance to the fractured world events surrounding us. I felt moved that everything The Mixed Up Chorus stands for was a living reality warming the hearts of everyone present.
