Sing For Freedom Choir

The Sing for Freedom Choir is a remarkable community of torture survivors and

friends across London who sing together in a spirit of joy and hope, in solidarity with all those who are oppressed.

Founded by survivors from the charity Freedom From Torture, we offer members a joyful community of friendship founded in music, and delight audiences with our unique and life-enhancing performances. We have performed at Milton Court in the Barbican, the Tower of  London, the Southbank Centre, Tilbury Carnival, Union Chapel and Islington Town Hall, amongst others.

We welcome new members in January, April and September and would love you to join us!

    Musical Director: Ellen Muriel

    Creative Producer: Holly Jones

  • Our songs

We sing a wide range of songs from around the world, in different languages. All our songs are taught by ear, so you don’t need to read music or be an experienced singer.

We have practice recordings, so you can also learn by singing along at home. We currently sing in three parts, and all voices are welcome.

You can hear us sing in the films below.

  • Why Join?

The Sing for Freedom Choir is a joyful group with a social conscience and a mission to make a difference in the world. We are a community, making friendships and having fun together while we sing. Many of us have English as a third or fourth language. We encourage singers to suggest songs from our diverse cultures.

We are involved with many wonderful and unique collaborations with artists, musicians and ensembles from all backgrounds because we are part of Together Productions.

Our choir is a founding member of the Singing Our Lives project, and we have regular joint performances and projects with our sister choir the Mixed Up Chorus.
